Unfortunately, in my case was never the mat.
I do agree it can slide, so right now it is removed since I have a trunk liner that does not slide.
It also does not interfere with the lock.

OK, many thanks for the suggestion. will try this next time, see if one of the 4 lock wires are broken. It may also be the one that goes to the glass breakage sensor.
