Changing solenoids is not the same a rebuilding the valve body. New solenoids in a worn bore still won't work correctly.
I just wrapped the wheel in a wheelskinz cover in a matching color...
While changing the oil on the XC yesterday, saw that the inner boot on the passenger side front axle had completely torn, spilling all the fluid. With 172,000 miles on the axle, I am not sure it's...
To expand on JRL's comment - most of these transmissions failed due to valve body wear. Software that shifted to neutral at stoplights didn't help, but that wasn't what killed them. Fluid leaks...
+1 on the ATE fluid. Shop around. My local import car parts store has it for $14/QT. My MB dealer charges me $14/QT for genuine MB DOT4+. I flush the brakes with new pads and then every two years.
Do one side at a time. Leaving the other side untouched allows you to compare sides...so that you can get the spring on correctly...
Using ATF will get you the joy of a new steering rack. And the fun of removing the subframe to wrestle the beast out...
The spec was superseded, you want to use the Pentosin.
I have followed...
The point is this: a plugged PCV will force oil out of every possible gasket & seal.
So, you could spend a fortune chasing down every gasket & seal and you will STILL HAVE LEAKS until you remove...
The B4 servo cover.
Search the threads, lots of discussion... Might fix 3-4 shift flare but not all that you describe. What gears are flaring and/or clunking in yours?
Yes, it's worth doing.
Wait...you say that you broke a 3/8" wrench on those?!? Of course you did! What on Earth were you doing with a 3/8 set on those strut/knuckle bolts? 1/2 inch or impact gun with 1/2 inch...
Did you go to Howard's site as I recommended?
He answers this and many other questions...read through his site....read through the Owners Manual...
There should be very little difference in feel between an AWD car and a FWD car. My T5 has 235/45R17 tires that provide much sharper steering response than the taller, softer sidewalls in the XC's...
Take a look at this thread: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?23743-BAD-Swede-P2-lift-kit-sale
I don't know what a "spring hat" is...but when I replaced the struts, I did both the...
I would replace both with IPD (as I've done on my T5) rather than do a performance bar on the front with OE, or NO bar, on the rear...keep the handling balanced...
A rack costs over $1,000 from many sources, but you can get a rebuilt one for $350. PS pump is $400 new, but you can get one used for $75.
Replacing the rack, however, requires lowering the...
It will happen 50 minutes after shutdown to clear the AC evaporator...
doesn't anybody read their owner's manuals anymore?
My neighbor owns a NAPA auto care center....he doesn't like working on the Volvo and could never get it to stop pulling...he recommended that I take it to the Dealer.
My Volvo dealer charges $89...
1. On the A-Pillar under the windshield.
2. see this thread: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?19629-Oil-Rant for engine oil. For trans fluid, you need a JWS-3309 fluid. Mobil 3309 or...
My last trip to the dealer (with my T5) cost me $37. That's not a misprint. They reset an airbag light, checked the software versions with Vida/Dice, and I enjoyed the wi-fi and free coffee for an...
My MB S600 is in the shop (annual inspection)...while talking with the service rep, he mentioned the 722.6 (NAG - the only transmission that can live behind the 690 lbft of torque from the V-12) was...
I understand how you must feel after spending that much on this set of un-needed repairs...what really surprises me is that there was no warranty on the work...that the repair was repeated 4 times...
20# of pressure is a major leak. You may not have a burned valve...it may be damaged/broken...
Cylinder head job is no small matter (just did the head gasket on the 300E, but the valves and...
Our XC does great in the high heat/humidity of Virginia summers. The car has a good cooling system and good AC.
If running in high heat, particularly in the mountains, I would go with a synthetic...
If you really want one that is put together to last, Google Level Ten transmission.
Make sure that whatever you choose, it has a rebuilt and tested valve body, not just new soft/hard parts.
