My 01 XC will 'lurch' into gear when idling in 'D' at stoplights. At first I thought the engine cooling fan was engaging and the engine was over-revving but now I suspect the torque converter lockup...
My 01 XC was giving intermittent power steering fluid loss, for quite some time; never pinned it down but finally got noticeable drips on garage floor.
Gave it a good visual and finally saw some red...
Long story short had a random transmission hiccup 3 months ago - no recurrence and car drives fine but 'Transmission Service Required' message and 'Service' light stay on all the time now.
Can...
01XC Tranny is a lemon - there is a cheap servo fix that may help your problem.
The overhead console / sunroof trips a circuit breaker randomly and unpredictably - just give it time and it will...
Just did mine - lockring is a PAIN simply since it is hard to get your hand in position.
Lowes sells a pair of universal internal/external lockring pliers for $15 - perfect for this job.
Just followed the IPD instructions.
Installed the B4 servo cover from IPD last night [Wow - is that snap ring tough to get the right angle on!]
Test drove and ran the adaptation drill; seems like better 2-3 shifting but hard to...
I ordered the B4 kit from IPD and will take a look next week when I get the parts.
FYI drove 15 miles [stop and go] home yesterday with no issues. Hoping for the best here; expect I will still have...
Forgot to add that a second try with autostick shift worked fine; also the car drove normal for a few miles after the warning light came on. Will see how she goes tonight . . .
01XC with 147K miles, fluid has been changed with 3309 and Toyota T-IV periodically.
Sitting at red light today when i felt a hard shudder, ignored it as sometimes the cooling fan kicks in and...
Thanks to info here I checked and it looks like I need new bushings where the sway bar attaches to the subframe. Is this an easy DIY job? It was a bit cramped under there but looks hard to get in...
When I back out of the driveway over the curb ramp the drivers side front makes a loud squeek as that wheel drops.
I changed the struts, seats, and sway bar endlinks last year so am suspecting...
I cannot see any issue with the contact - the green LED indicator would always work fine when #1 was pressed so I have a positive indicator for good switch contact. The elapsed time between working...
Well I reset and programmed button #3 instead; works fine now.
Somehow it looks like the transmitting power for button #1 faded out so it only worked from close distance.
Still have to...
In this case the problem door is not rolling code.
I suspect some gremlin like fault in the circuitry [same breed that makes the sunroof open spontaneously in cold temps . . . .]
Oh well, maybe...
01XC with Homelink garage door opener:
I have a double door garage, use buttons #1 and #2 on the sunvisor Homelink controls.
Until this week all was working fine; now . . . .
Before I...
Better to remove the hose from the oil cooler - easy access with the skid plate removed for oil change. It is also the lowest point in the system so more coolant will drain.
If memory serves...
Wow - I don't remember ever seeing a removeable plastic part inside my 01XC's oil filter housing ?? 25+ DIY oil changes since new at this point !!
If memory serves mine just has a centering...
Time for a new battery if it will not hold a charge - may still be under some warranty of as new as you say. Get it tested.
All depends on your speed and terrain. 60 mph on flat ground you should be fine as long as you keep safe distance to allow long slow coasting / braking. If you are in steep hills then you are...
I always use 3.5 US Quarts on my 01XC when I drain the pan.
Well it worked for a bit but still is intermittent - fails in high temps when parts must be expanding and breaking contact. Better than it was but I guess I have to break down and buy a new...
Like many my right front blinker was flaky due to the poor socket design. [01 XC.] Bulb was 100% fine but the connectors arced and gave 'turn signal bulb failure' error message.
Last year [or...
I just pop off one of the ~3/4" rubber hoses from the oil cooler, it drains a heck of a lot faster plus it is the lowest spot on the entire system so drains more.
My radiator has a slow leak [...
