Not easy indeed! I'm thinking of fabricating a very small diameter hard line made out of copper or stainless steel to hook up to my fluid pump so I can siphon out as much of the old fluid as I can...
It's kind of incredible how people drink the kool-aid of transmission and angle gear/diff don't need fluid changes! Lifetime fluid my @$$.
Working on another 2001 with transmission shudder. Fluid...
Finally getting back to this project after diagnosing and replacing the rear diff in the other 2001 XC, then selling it a day later.
The best way to describe the noise it makes from starting out...
I just buy Mobile 3309, Aisin Warner 3309, or Toyota Type I-V, whatever is on sale at the time, it's all exactly the same. I do a drain and fill every other oil change, so every 15k miles, about 4...
If your car didn't come with a PCC keyfob, you will have to at least go to the dealer for programming.
Case closed. Got a used differential off ebay, replaced all the seals, swapped it in and put driveshaft back in. Car is good. What a major pain in the *** though. I suppose if I have to do that again...
Thanks. You might be referring to the bushings. I did an inspection of them at the last oil change and they were in remarkable condition for 129k miles. I did replace the rear sway bar end...
Hi,
2008 XC70 with 128k miles. I've noticed a slight waddle that has been developing over time. Just put new tires all around (ouch!) and that helped the ride quality overall, but the rear-waddle...
Finally got it out, once I took the wheels off, and the two arms out of the way on each side, it came out much easier. The e-brake cable was the only really annoying part. Having a jack to help lower...
Great write up, I'm doing the same exact thing.
Other than the sway bar, did you remove anything else so that the rear axle shafts could come out with the diff? I am having trouble lowering my...
Replaced both rear wheel bearings and the noise is still present. I ordered a used diff from ebay and hopefully that solves the issue. Luckily it comes with a VC so I will have a spare. The VC is...
I agree with JRL, sometimes you can find new volvo plugs on ebay pretty cheap. Plus they're pre-gapped I believe. This is one thing you don't want to cheap out on.
Removed the driveshaft and the noise is almost completely gone. I feel like I still hear a very faint whine, but maybe only 5% of what it was before. I'll be able to make a better determination on my...
Could be, my next step is remove the driveshaft.
Thanks Antherzoll, I'll check those out.
Here's a couple videos that hopefully will help with the identification of the noise. I topped off the differential fluid, but it really wasn't that low...
Just bite the bullet and buy a new set. It's good to have spares anyway. They're pricey, but unless you can confirm the exact non-Volvo replacement, it's the best way to go.
I hate when people don't update their status! Well, finally got back around to this car...motivation is that it is blocking other cars in the driveway!
Got underneath and was checking the bevel...
Thanks for all the responses. To clarify, a whine might not be the best way to describe the sound. It sounds more like a howl I'd say. It also sounds like it may be coming from the rear the last time...
Hi all,
Have a 2001 XC with 121k miles. Is there an easy way to determine if a low whine i'm hearing is related to problems in the diff or angle gear? I have spares of both but obviously the angle...
I couldn't find anything on their website relating to the AW55-50SN, do you know of any links?
Ours is just the 3.2 N/A, get the T6, that thing is a beast! It will definitely be faster than a stock P2 xc70
I still think the majority comes from the front...it just has to! But maybe the rear are undersized for the weight of it? They also have the electronic parking brake. The last set I put in are...
Here's a link to a pro doing the tear down, maybe there is a full manual for just this transmission that someone has seen. I have Vida, but I don't think they have a break-down as they usually just...
So I replaced the linear solenoids with rostra, fluid is very fresh. Put everything back together and did the adaptation as well. Just for the hell of it, I also installed a newer ETM as I was...
If you google search: "Volvo Transmission shift flare", you should get hundreds, if not thousands of threads of information. Good luck.
