Check the floorboard at the bottom of the steering It's possible the lower steering column boot came dislodged and you're hearing the turbo

Zimmerman and Brembo make an El Cheapo rotor. The next one up is the one to buy, they're coated and do not rust Like 5-$10 more, spend the money.

Brembos have been great - I think they were only $50 each for the XC...but it's been about 4 years (and nearly 70,000 miles) since I put them on.
