Just wondering if the XC70 transmission is repairable or serviceable? What I've been reading is maintenance and fluid flush and bleeding.
With what I have when I got the car, with replaced transmission that was less than two months before purchase. The original transmission was replaced due to slipping.
The replaced one still slips, very dark colored transmission fluid just after a month replacement, and the oil feel like it has some very fine 'grains' in it - this says a lot.

Currently, I am trying to get the issue settled by the seller. Now, he and I have greed to take it to a transmission specialist to check. Personally, I don't know what is going to be found except that the replaced transmission is really bad. Maybe I am out of my mind. But I so wonder why the first transmission specialist accepted to install a donor transmission without checking the fluid in it. If it was replaced, then the tranny must be really bad to have burnt the fluid that bad.

A Volvo specialist does not advice repairing a Volvo transmission. He also mentioned that with the state of the oil, the tranny must be really bad and I should not be driving it at all. Because of the case at hand, I have not replaced the existing fluid. Intermittently, it still slips sometimes - not a good feeling on the body when it happens. Some of the slips are subtle and some are very jerky.

Should this replace transmission be serviced or replaced?

Original tread on the issue: http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showth...ht=fluid+color

Thanks folks.

First of all, I am a new Volvo owner with very little mechanical experience.

I recently purchased a 2007 XC70 with about 81,000 miles (2.5 T engine). Although the inspection revealed that it needed new front sway bars, a transmission and coolant flush, everything else was in good shape.

After having the above mentioned work completed by a trusted mechanic, I drove the car around town (no faster than 55mph) for several days. On a 90 plus degree day, I got the car up to 70 or so and, after letting the turbo cool down for about 15 seconds, let it sit in the sun for about 30 minutes.
On the way home, it started running very rough, loosing power, and struggling to maintain speed. I limped home, popped the hood and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Next, I took it back out for a drive and experienced no problems. After running it rather hard (rapid acceleration and deceleration) for about 10 minutes, it began to, once again start running roughly and struggling to maintain speed. The check engine light came on and a computer scan revealed that cylinders 2-5 had multiple misfires.

After leaving it with my mechanic for several days, where the temperature was in the mid 80s, he was not able to replicate the problem.

I am planning to take the car on a cross country road trip in about 10 days and would like to get this problem fixed before I leave.

Any ideas what could be causing intermittent cylinder misfires?

Upon inspection I noticed what appears to be one of the metal glides has become bent and is causing the sunroof to get stuck. I think I have found the part on-line and it's only an $8.00 part and should be easy to replace if I can get to it. I've never taken a sunroof off before and don't know where to begin. Any help on how to actually remove the glass would be very helpful. This would likely save me a good chunk of change it I don't have to take it to the dealer.

Thanks for the help!
Initially it was at idle only. Now I feel it at any acceleration. Several weeks ago I noticed a slight miss at freeway speeds every once in awhile - I at first thought it was seams in the pavement, but then realized it was the car.
I rechecked my work twice to make sure I did not leave something disconnected.
Any ideas?

A couple months ago my father in law was driving behind me and noticed that when I came to a stop sign, stop and then accelerate there was a puff of blue/white smoke which then goes away after initial acceleration. Last week we ended up sitting in some stop and go traffic and I really started to notice this becoming more and more prominent. Yesterday, had the car idling in the driveway for 5 minutes, then proceeded to drive about a mile. Smoke everywhere. I'm not sure who to turn to for advice on this car anymore and feel like I would be just throwing time and money at a problem that I haven't really seen any definite answers for. It has a newer turbo, PCV system was just done, and I've heard the head gaskets rarely go bad on these cars as both sides of the block are aluminum so the expansion rate is the same? I was thinking about searching the junkyards for a used engine with lower miles to replace this one due to the high miles. Any advice on either the problem, where to find a decent engine or engine removal and installation instructions? I always appreciate any assistance.

Hi All,
A few weeks ago I mentioned that may be my front end bearing / or carrier bearing needed replacement due to humming noise, well after further investigation
it turn out that the humming noise is coming from my tyres and not the bearings.
Last week I put back the standard rims/ tyres and the humming noise wasn't there any more, I drove for about a week to make sure that that humming noise was eliminated .
Yesterday I put back the 17"rims (235x60x17 TYRES: NEXEN CP641 plenty of room no rubbing anywhere ) and the humming noise was back , I went to the tyre workshop where I had bought the new tyres
and I explained to them regarding my issue with the humming noise and was told and they confirmed that it was the tyres due to there tread pattern .
The noise isn't that bad its very faint , I'm glad I put the old rims first before replacing the bearings.

Cheers

Just spent the weekend sorting a noisy front sway bar due to a failed bushing in my 2001 V70XC.
Inspired by Bill's alternative bushing replacement method for the rear sway bar bushing,

http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showth...light=sway+bar

I was looking for a similar fix for the front sway bar. I couldn't stomach paying $220 to buy a new sway bar when my sway bar was still perfectly good, just because Volvo decided to make non-replaceable bushings that are vulcanized to the bar.

As the 2001 XC70 has a front sway bar with a diameter of 22.7 mm, I purchased a universal sway bar bushing from Energy Suspensions, item 9.5108. This is a polyurethane bushing with an ID of 7/8" or 22mm. I figured i'd go a bit smaller rather than order a 23 mm bushing and have it not be tight.

This is a non-greasable bushing. They sell two styles and of bushings and this is the slightly larger style with a height of 1 and 3/4 " and a length of 4 and 1/2" which is very similar to the size of the xc70 bushing/bracket, and it has bolt slots that correspond to the bolt holes in the xc70.

http://energysuspension.com/universa...-bushings.html

The installation is a bit of work as it requires dropping the subframe but it would have to be done anyway to replace the entire bar.
The installation went quite smoothly. I used the IPD sway bar installation instructions to guide me in removal of the sway bar. The bar came out fine. The old bushings and brackets had to be removed from the bar - this required drilling out the bolt hole bushes that hold the bottom plate of the bracket to the upper U-shaped portion. This allowed the bottom plate to be removed from the top bracket and then removed from the rubber bushing.
I cut the bushing off the bar and then used a wire wheel to take off any remaining rubber stuck on the bar. A quick coat of rapid dry rust paint and the bar was ready for the new bushing.

The bushings opened up nicely and could be placed on the bar in the appropriate location using the lube included with the Energy Suspensions bushing.
I decided to use the bottom plate of the original bushing bracket with the new upper U-shaped bracket that came with the replacement bushing. I think it could also have been bolted directly to the subframe with out this piece of metal but i thought it would help me centre the bushing better. The cut portion of the bushing should face the front of the car I believe.

It all bolted together great. As I mentioned, the bushing was actually a bit smaller in diameter than the bar so I have about 2mm of opening in the bushing even after tightening down the bracket. This won't affect performance but I'd use the 23 mm bushing next time - item #9.5115 ( or whatever the OD of your bar measures at). Make sure to measure the side distance of the sway bar from the subframe on each side to make sure it's centred before tightening down the bolts.

The only additions i'd make to the IPD intructions is to remove the bolt that attaches some AC lines to front of the subframe under the steering rack. This is not mentioned in the instructions but this line is bolted to the subframe and then twists up over the steering rack and is attached to the steering rack. As the rack needs to be separated from the subframe when the subframe is lowered this stresses this line and limits the separation of the two parts.

Whole job cost me about 20 bucks and I think I could now replace these new bushings with the sway bar in the car if they ever needed to be replaced, maybe even without lowering the subframe.

Of additional note, I did my LCA bushings at the same time and getting the control arms out with the subframe lowered was very easy as it made getting the ball joints out of the arm very simple and I didn't even have to remove the drive axle bolt at all or jack up the engine. Might be a good alternative method as many people have had trouble with this job.

Replaced top charge pipe hoses (couplers)
New coils, plugs
Silicone boost control solenoid hoses
Throttle body removed and cleaned spotless.

Engine runs very well, has good power, just drove a friends (same year) and his has a lot more boost. And can hear his spool up.
I can feel some boost in first and second gear (I think) but can't hear the turbo whine.
Any input anybody?

Hi all, first time poster, have owned my 07 XC70 for a couple of weeks now, and added an IMIV LE+ on Friday. It came configured to play on the CD Changer channel, which means no song titles on my HU650. I'd like to change that to the SAT channel of the 650, so that I can get song/artist on the HU. But the only firmware download I see on imiv's website for the LE+ is the cd-changer version. Will the IMIV LE (not plus) SAT firmware work for me, or am I missing a link somewhere?

Thanks,

Hello, I drive 2005 xc90 manual d5 120kW... and when the engine is still cold, the car is accelerating very poorly from 1000-2000rpm - considering that I do not press the pedal to the floor (I do not feel like revving and destroying a cold d5 engine...)... but if I use the clutch agressively and release the clutch at 2000rpm, then the car accelerates heavily ...
My questions are :

Do xc90 D5 120kw have rev limiters in order not to damage cold engines?

Is there any other problem with d5 and slow acceleration response when cold? EGR, vacuum leak, some sensor malfunctioning...?

Best regards, J
