On 1/9/03 I order an Ash Gold 2003 XC70 with Premium and Touring packages plus DSTC system. *Computer print out from Volvo shows dealer delivery of March 12, 2003. *Are these projections accurate in the "real world"?

In November I ordered a 2003 XC. Delivery date was determined to be 1/4/03. The vehicle arrived at the dealership 1/3/03. I took delivery a few days later after dealer prep and my add ons. Of course if another 'Floating Parking Lot' sinks, all bets are off! -Dick

I ordered my car in summer 2002, as soon as I knew the diesel model was announced.
The dealer told i would have waited till october.
In the first days of october i phoned and they told me i should have waited till november 15, because there was some delay in car production.

On october 22 the dealer called me, the car was ready! * http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
i took it on the 29.
later the dealer told me that they early call for the delay was only a joke to make the customer happy for having the car some days before!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif
Not so sure this works well, but I've been happy for the punctuality. * http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

From what I have experienced, the Swedish... and that includes Volvo factory employees... would be extremely offended by the notion that their products are delivered late- like most of Scandanavia's wonderful culture attributes, promptness is a near-holy trait. *If its scheduled, its delivered. *On time. *Period. *...Except if the boat goes down... *http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I was told that my car would be built by Jan 25th. &nbsp; Now I hear that it will not be built until Feb 8th, though they do promise to keep the delivery date of Feb 25th. &nbsp; &nbsp;I wonder if it says anything about the Swedish punctuality. &nbsp; A mitigating factor might be that XC70 are actually assembled in a plant located in Ghent, Belgium (according to Edmunds) http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The OSD XC70 are built next door in the factory, along with s60, s80, xc90. &nbsp;I believe the c70 and v40 are built in ghent. &nbsp; Can't remember everything from the tour.

add the s40 to the Ghent list. &nbsp;I asked my dealer about the reference to Ghent... and was told that &quot;I'm sure you've noticed the other mistakes in those reviews...&quot; &nbsp; &nbsp;Indeed, the XC70 and XC90 for sure are both produced next door to the FDC. &nbsp;Just take a look at your origin sticker.

Chuck, I ordered my Ash Gold 2004? XC70 (no DSTC though..) one week later than you (1/17/03). Got a computer print out saying w12 (17-23 of March). So far so good...

However my order confirmation says w23 and a phone call to Gothenburg returned a date in between (w18).

Also posts in this forum indicate MY2004 will not begin until April.

Are you sure you will get a 2003?

However, Stockholm Sweden is far closer to Gothenburg than Minnesota, he he...

Very interesting indeed. &nbsp;Yes, my order is for a 2003 model although the dealer said that Volvo was just about at the cutoff for 2003's. &nbsp; He had one open on his allocation list and put mine down in place of a model he had ordered for inventory that had not been finalized yet. &nbsp;Looks like my date is pretty close then. &nbsp;I am looking forward to it. &nbsp; The last time I ordered a vehicle I said, &quot;never again, too hard waiting&quot; but here I am waiting again. &nbsp; Thanks for the information everyone.

MatsJoha,

That sounds about right for your w18 delivery. *Mine is w12, on schedule, its a 03. *You are likely to have one of the earliest 04's and pushing the date back would account for that fact. *We here in North America will see them a couple of months after you guys- that fits with the dealer info here too. *You probably saw my post about the 03's in production until the last week of March..... seen anything to confirm this?

Chuck,

Waiting is a pain indeed. &nbsp; It's my guess that the 03 your waiting for is being built right now... maybe completed? &nbsp; You should ask. &nbsp; My Dec 19th order, confirmed on the 4 Jan, build date was scheduled for the 17 Feb- heard it was completed on Jan 20th, pickup is not until 17 March.

where was your volvo assembled? &nbsp;i believe the 40's and some 60's are made in ghent, be. &nbsp;the c70's are made in udevalla, se and the xc's &amp; 80's are made in gothenborg, se. &nbsp;as was noted above, the new car sticker on your car will tell you exactly where. &nbsp;of course, there is an asian assembly plant and formerly a canadian plant?

I didn't know there was an Asian factory but there was one in Canada and one also in Portugal, I believe.

My last Volvo was made in Gent, and in addition to the cars you mention the V70's are made there too.

I checked with the dealer and my '03 XC70 has a vin number now so it has been assembled during the week of Feb 3-7. &nbsp; The vin number would indicate it was assembled in Torslanda Sweden, aren't all XC70's now assembled there? &nbsp; At any rate the delivery date of March 12th still shows. &nbsp;I am 240 miles from the dealership so it will take a day to get there but that is fine since he has to install an engine block heater any prepare the car for delivery anyway. &nbsp;Just waiting for that call!

Our 2003 should be in the Baltimore harbor today. &nbsp;Assuming that the weather will allow them to begin transport, it should arrive at the dealer 3/6/03, six days earlier than the projected delivery date when I ordered it.

http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif &nbsp;http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Great Monday. &nbsp;I just rec'd a call from the dealer and our vehicle has come in. &nbsp;Ordered on January 9th with a projected delivery of March 12th which was changed to March 6th and then rescheduled for March 11th. &nbsp;I suspect east coast weather may have impacted things. &nbsp; At any rate it is at the dealership in Minneapolis today, March 10th. &nbsp;Due to other commitments I won't be able to pick it up until the 12th. &nbsp;Probably have trouble sleeping for a couple of nights.

This will be the end of my yacking. &nbsp;http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif &nbsp; I picked up the XC70 and drove it back here (240 miles) yesterday. &nbsp; What a dream. &nbsp;Because the roads are beginning to have spring frost heaves, I encountered some in poor condition but the ride remained very comfortable. &nbsp;I live at the end of a one mile private road. &nbsp; The beginning of that road is a steep hill which is covered with compacted and slippery snow. &nbsp;I started up the hill and then accelerated and the vehicle went up straight as an arrow without noticeable slipping. &nbsp; My previous Buick Park Avenue would have just started slipping and then sliding backwords. &nbsp;I like the information I have gathered from this forum. &nbsp; Thanks and safe driving everyone. &nbsp;http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif

It seems like the wait for a xc70 becomes longer and longer.
Iīve just had a talk with my dealer here in Sweden and he told me that if I ordered a xc70 the wait would be app. 5 to 6 months http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif
And, he told me, It is because the xc90 is such a success. They canīt manufacture enough Haldex-parts for all of Volvos 4-wheel driven cars.
If I ordered an ordinary frontweeldriven Volvo I could have it in 8 to 10 weeks.
Has anyone ordered a xc70 the past weeks ?
Is the wait the same all over the wourld ? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif

Mikael:

If you read post My 2004 changes in print at dealers (http://xc70.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=79;hl=ruby) and review member <span style='color:red'>xcrubygal's</span> postings you might be able to glean some MY2004 order timelines for USA deliveries.

Hope that helps.
