Does this car burn tires or what! The car came standard
with V Rated Michelins which lasted about 16K. I have replaced these with a Michelin H rated tire, which after about 18k are getting down there. I don't know if the Michelins
are just inferior or is this typical for the XC. Any ideas?

EricB, welcome! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

This is not typical of the XC. So many things involved - the tires, wheel balance, rotation, driving habits, terrain, etc. etc.

People seem to be able to get 40K+ miles in some cases and the Michelins are generally well made tires, though every manufacturer has it's "junk" level of product.

To check out the tires you got, you may want to visit Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com/), look up the customer reviews for the specific tires you got and see if there are comments about unusual tire wear. That will take care of one of the factors, at least... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Just to add to Wiz' comments, checking the UTQG (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/utqg.htm) (uniform tire quality grade) will also offer a guideline as to the wear of your chosen tires. This is something you may have already opted to look into. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I like the Goodyear AquaTred3 or Dunlop Sport A2 tires. The Goodyear has a treadlife of 80k miles. Which means for me that they will last about a year or just under.....the way I drive....

http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif In that case, the Dunlop Sport A2 tires will last even less. CR really likes that tire - I do too - I've had them on another Volvo and they were awesome. Maybe the best tire I ever had. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
